Finding Law Scholarships
In the United States, a law school is an institution where students obtain a professional education in law after first obtaining an undergraduate degree.
American legal education is far more participatory than the traditional lecture method. American law schools use the "case method" – studying casebooks containing actual court decisions to derive legal rules. Moreover, professors traditionally use the "Socratic" method of teaching in which the professor asks a series of questions thereby guiding the student toward the correct responses. All students are expected to read the assignments and take part in discussions. Many professors consider class participation to be an integral component of the final class grade.
The study of law improves powers of reasoning, clarity of thought and the ability to analyze and express complicated ideas. Such skills are in demand in a wide variety of areas including commerce and industry, social services, politics, the media and the upper echelons of the public services.
A legal education opens more doors than just the practice of law, and wide career opportunities are open to law graduates. It should be noted that law schools rarely emphasize the law of the particular state in which the law school sits, instead focusing on the general law throughout the country, and the problem-solving skills needed for a legal career.
